From Wise Blood by Flannery O'Connor.

p.18

 

"Going around the corner he ran into something heavy and pink.  It gasped and muttered 'clumsy'. It was Mrs. Hitchcock in a pink wrapper.  With her hair in knots around her head, she looked at him with her eyes squinted nearly shut.  The knobs framed her face like dark toadstools. She tried to get past him and he tried to let her but they were both moving the same way each time.  Her face became purplish except for little white marks over it that wouldn't heat up."

         There are Mushrooms growing on her !  She is rotting !!!!!!
